01.Dec.2009 Parental Alienation Syndrome Is Not A Mental Disorder

Psychologists who make their living at pushing this so-called syndrome are trying to get it approved in the next Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V).  This must be stopped.  Too many children are ending up with abusers in family court once the words “parental alienation” are uttered.

The American Psychological Association (APA) agrees it is not a mental disorder.  Here is their official statement:

Statement on Parental Alienation Syndrome

The American Psychological Association has no official position on “parental alienation syndrome.” This concept has been used in contested child custody cases and has become the subject of significant debate. While it may be that in some divorces, children become estranged from their non-custodial parent for a variety of reasons, there is no evidence within the psychological literature of a diagnosable parental alienation syndrome.

The committee members that will be considering this are listed below.  We all need to send a letter to each one to express our concerns.  A downloadable letter has been prepared for each member (click on the highlighted name link), with space to include your own comments, including how PAS has been used against you in court by an abuser if this is the case:

Wonder about the “mental health” professionals trying to get it approved in the next Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V)?  They are psychologists for hire, ready to testify for their clients or recommend that the children be put in their $40,000 a week treatment center.  There is a lot of money to be made by these people if “parental alienation syndrome” makes it into the DSM-V.

And what about the children that are the true victims?  Can you imagine the horror of being told you have to live with your abuser or your parent’s abuser?  Even after you had witnessed it?  How does that child feel…do they have nightmares night after night dreaming of trying to save that parent?  And on top of it, the abusive parent and/or their Whores of the Court are keeping you from seeing your loving parent.  How about the child that was raped by a parent?  All the rapist parent has to do is go into court and utter the words “parental alienation” and 70% of the time they score custody.  Then the child is usually drugged into compliance to let the abuser continue to rape the child, and nobody will listen because the label “parental alienation syndrome” has been placed upon them.

    Kudos for posting this latest twisted attempt by abusers and their supporters-to- have the DSM essentially condone violence towards children. Surely some people at the DSM know that Gardner was a pro-pedophile ? Ahh- but there’s the rub- some of them may BE pedophiles or supporters of pedophiles. I hope your letter reaches a wide audience and that the healthy majority send YOUR letter.

    At least when some con artists were selling the Brooklyn Bridge- their actions did not destroy children so directly.

    Wait, are you suggesting that when a parent, male or female as both do this, purposely says and does things to convince their children to not like or want to spend time with the other, that this NEVER happens?

    This is a very serious problem. To make it seem as though abusers are the only people who claim parental alienation is terribly disturbing.

    We all know some parents will badmouth the other parent. Frequently though, and studies done by the Leadership Council and others have shown that when a child reacts negatively to a parent, it is because of the behavior of that parent. It is kind of like when someone goes and kicks their dog, and kicks them often. Then one day the dog will start to run and hide, crouch down, whimper, etc. Do we call that dog-owner alienation syndrome? No, we don’t. The dog is reacting to the behavior of the person. And the last reason shown is badmouthing from the other parent. Do you think kids are that dumb? I was a child victim of family court too. My abusive father took custody of my siblings and I, and would constantly badmouth my mother, who we could not see. And then he coached us to tell social workers and lawyers we wanted to be with him. Well, it didn’t work, so he split us up and had us living in various foster homes and group homes when he got tired of taking care of us about six months later. Kids are NOT that dumb. And we don’t need a bunch of court whores trying to run our lives, mothers or fathers. We are financially devastated by these people. No, the judge’s associations recognize PAS for what it is, and have warned judges not to accept it.

    My son was taken kidnapped from me when he was 5 – he is now an adult. He does NOT hate me – and the kidnappers filled his head with garbage about how I hated him, how I abondoned him. Yet he still wants to be with me after almost 2 decades. Now my minor child on the other hand is being subjected to claims of PAS by our ABUSER and she does not like him, she is in fact very angry at him due to the abuse he has put both of us through. Yet he screams – she is turning my daughter against me. No – our child does not llike you because you are a nasty jerk who abused me and abused her.

    PAS=JUNK SCIENCE ONLY USED BY ABUSERS. People who are not abusive and who are being subjected to hatred campaigns by a former spouse are not being subjected to PAS – find something else.

    What do you think ? Most of us would think – Wow! We have a super educated knowledgeable doctor , expert in psychology, law and or medicine that has the blessing of all credentialing bodies in the world.

    Janelle Burrill is classic example of false advertisement and fraudulent marketing.

    Lets look at the all the letters stuck in front and back of Janelle Burrill – here are the facts :

    1. “Board Certified Diplomate” – Sounds like Burrill took a big board exam run by a state or a federal agency, got her credentials verified and got an award of the Diplomate. Right?

    Wrong : Burrill did not pass any exam, she pays $115/yr to the association to keep this title. This so called certification is issued by an association that is called American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work (ABE), It is a not a state or a government agency, it is an association – sort of a club of other Clinical Social Workers. http://www.abecsw.org/

    To get this so called certificate every year from this friendly club you have to do the following – practice for ~ 300 hours/yr, maintain State Licensure in good standing, Ethical practice, 20 Hours of Continuing Education, Payment of $115/yr. Like most associations rooting for their kind – ABE cares about their revenue and is blind to the fraud perpetuated by Janelle Burrill . They have no idea that the California Board of Behavioral Sciences has dozens of complaints on Burrill and she has been under active investigation by DCA DOI.

    Once BBS revokes Burrills LCSW license, “Board Certified Diplomate” will vaporize. It is not a diploma or a certificate that you keep when you graduate from a school , university or board.

    2. J.D. – Sounds like Burrill is a lawyer and can practice law in the state of California. She knows family law and understands how to address the best interest of children and families. Right?

    Wrong : Burrill failed the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination and the California Bar Examination multiple times. She is not licensed to practice law anywhere – let alone in California. Our search did not find her at the California Bar – http://members.calbar.ca.gov/search/member_search.aspx?ms=janelle+burrill . Her attorney husband John Michael O’Donnell – #142906 who sends us the threats to gag shows as licensed.

    3. Dr of Psychology – Burrill claims to be an expert in psychology – she has determined and diagnosed many of her victims as psychotic, suffering from bi-polar disorders and doles out DSM-V diagnosis and prescribes psychiatric medicine as candies after talking to them for a few minutes. With a Doctor title in front of her name – you are convinced she is a doctor of psychology right?

    Wrong : We talked to the Board of psychology and found out that she failed the board exam multiple times. She has been trying to get licenced for the last three years and failed miserably.     4. LCSW – Burrill is licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as a Clinical social worker LCS 16216. Once the BBS investigation is complete we are confident that justice will prevail and Burrill’s LCSW will be revoked.

    5. PhD and the “Dr” in Burrill – Burrill attaches a Dr title representing herself as an expert. A PhD holder of some kind. She asserted herself to us as Doctor of psychology – We must worship this fraudulent doctor Right?

    Wrong : Burrill purchased a PhD from an online / correspondence university called North Central University . This is what it takes to buy a PhD from north Central University. http://www.ncu.edu/about/about_ncu.aspx

    The requirements are very easy – The PhD online / correspondence degree requires 51 graduate semester credits including 24 semester credits in dissertation preparation. No real college would award a masters degree for under 50 credits. At NCU you can do your own stuff in correspondence at $350/credit, basically buy your online degree for under $17,000.

    No real or proper accredited university would dole out a doctorate with 50 credits of do your own courses over the internet. Her dissertation cannot even be used as toilet paper and she walks around as a Doctor and markets herself as a super expert in psychology.

    It’s a sham of a PhD. No real university would even consider this nonsense to award any degree.     Burrill :I bet you have.

    Child : Can’t name them all. There’s no one like — for example, if you’re an expert in, um, what was it?

    Burrill :Child custody.

    Child: What is it that made you an expert in child custody?

    Burrill:Um, a lot of study. Four years, a lot of work for the Court, lots of studies, law degree, Ph.D. (inaudible.)

    Child: I don’t think that’s something that can make anybody –

    Child :So looking at previous cases and what happened? Is that what you mean? Because how do you know about what happened in those previous cases — You know — will happen (inaudible)?

    Burrill :That’s a good question.

    Child : And when you do research, and you see what someone — a decision that someone already made — like,you’re looking at how some cases already played out.

    Burrill:Uh-huh.

    Child: You don’t know who the judge was, who the people were, how they acted.

    Burrill: Right.

    Child: What they acted. What they said; who said what. You can never — you don’t know anything about that, so when it comes to research and something like that — it’s not real. It’s not like looking up, um, the periodic table. It’s not that type of research. Because you don’t know who these people were. You don’t know what their ideas were, how they acted, so you get –

    Burrill:Uh-huh.

    Child: It’s — every time something’s new and different, so –

    Burrill: Uh-huh.

    Child: It’s never that anybody can ever become an actual expert at it. And when you say expert in chess,expert’s actually a certain rating level between 2000 and 2200 level.

    Burrill: Uh-huh. Well, you try to get as much down as you can. I’m not saying that I’m an expert, but you try to get as much down as you can.

    Child : I think you said earlier —

    Burrill : Well, I’ve got more expertise than the average person, because I’ve done research.

    Child : But what I said earlier about research was –

    Burrill: You don’t give a crap about it. You don’t think it holds water. A glass of water would fall right out of it.

    Child: That’s not what I mean. I’m saying for specific areas, research is legitimate.

    Burrill :What you’ve done here for the last hour is try to convince me that I am completely wrong, I know nothing, you know it all.
