03.Sep.2008 Evan Bayh's Fatherhood Initiative Bill, Co-Sponsored by Barack Obama, Ensures Funding to Fathers by Taking From Social Security Funds

When Evan Bayh was elected to the US Senate in 1998, it was a sad day for mothers everywhere.  His Fatherhood Initiatives have been successful in pulling money away from TANF government monies (from children, many living in poverty) and funneling it to fathers groups.  Fathers groups that have specific funds set aside from these programs to spend on trying to get custody of their children (see Circle City Fatherhood Coalition).  Now Senate Bill 1626 will ensure money to fathers groups coming from our social security funds:

S.1626
Title:A bill to amend title XIV of the Social Security Act to ensure funding for grants to promote responsible fatherhood and strengthen low-income families, and for other purposes.
Sponsor: Sen Bayh, Evan [IN] (introduced 6/14/2007)      Cosponsors (2)
Related Bills: H.R.3395
Latest Major Action: 6/14/2007 Referred to Senate committee. Status: Read twice and referred to the Committee on Finance.

I don’t know if Bayh is taking any heat from his fatherhood focus lately, because last year he had it listed as one of his main issues on his senate website, and now it isn’t there anymore.  But obviously he is going full guns after funds for fathers.

Does Obama really know what these fatherhood groups are doing???  I’m not sure, given his background…but if he doesn’t, shame on him anyway for supporting and not fully understanding what these groups are really doing with our government funds and what it is doing to the mothers in this country.

Moms should be so lucky to get any type of help like this.  Ever notice that there is a fatherhood.gov site, and not a motherhood.gov site?  This under Dr. Wade Horn’s watch (Bush’s former Assistant Secretary for Health and Human Services, Family Support).  I thought discrimination like this was against the law!  Senator Bayh, I could use some legal help for custody and child support issues also!
